Inexpensive Basque home-cooking the Marais

For un-fancy, inexpensive Basque casing in the heart of the Marais, look for farther than Auberge de la Jarente, a cozy little restaurant just off place du Marché Sainte-Catherine that has been satisfying customers since 1964.

A  personal favorite: piperade St Jean, a tangy dish of peppers, eggs, onions, and air-dried ham. The lunch menu is a particualrly good value.

Service is rapid, but friendly enough.
